A Little More Possible
A poem about what our responses make possible in others.
A Little More Possible
I had an idea.
You said, “Tell me more.”
And then my idea had somewhere it could go.
I asked a question.
You said, “Let’s find out.”
And then my question led us somewhere new.
I made a mistake.
You said, “Try again.”
And then my mistake became a place to begin.
I felt unsure.
You said, “I’m right here.”
And then I found the courage to take one little step.
I did it differently.
You said, “Show me how.”
And then I discovered my own way.
I had something to say.
You said, “I’m listening.”
And then my words found somewhere safe to land.
I needed help.
You said, “Let’s do it together.”
And then what felt too hard felt possible.
You made space
for my idea,
for my question,
for another try,
for one little step,
for my own way,
and for my words.
And little by little,
the world became
a little more possible.
